    Arthur E. Chadwick is a coauthor of The Classic Cattleyas that describes the large-flowered species that make up today’s hybrids. Description. Epiphytic or terrestrial orchids with cylindrical rhizome from which the fleshy noodle-like roots grow. Pseudobulbs can be conical, spindle-shaped or cylindrical; with upright growth; one or two leaves growing from the top of them. The leaves can be oblong, lanceolate or elliptical, somewhat fleshy, with smooth margin. The inflorescence is a terminal raceme with few or Clade: Angiosperms.

    Cattleyas do best when humidity ranges from 40% to 70%. Humidity as a rule is highest at night and lowest during the afternoon peak of sunlight and warmth. Therefore, except in areas where natural humidity is quite high, or during cold, cloudy or rainy weather, it is important to add moisture to the growing environment, especially during the day.
